In the brochure we had to include how much it costs, bullet points and how long a drive it is from Glen Innes/Auckland. So if you swing past Rotorua make sure that you go and read my blog to know where to go.

Sustainability

Using the internet to dis people is what this movie is about If Life Was Like The Web the movie is by Angus Slade. It is not the right thing to do if you wanna say or do something do it to there face otherwise don't do it is as simple as that. The things I like about this movie is the animation, the words that are used in the song and what the main idea is.

The website I found this movie on is called THE OUTLOOK FOR SOMEDAY. It is a really good site that shows you videos on how to improve this worlds environment. The main 3 things about this site is Young people + Film + Sustainability but the main year 5 & 6 Extension has been looking at is SUSTAINABILITY. Sustainability means the endurance of systems and processes.

Camp Bentzon Marked Recount

Kawau Island Writing Reflction

Taimana Camp from Team 4 Pes on Vimeo.

On Tuesday morning the year 6 kids caught a bus to Sandspit. And then caught the ferry, when we came to Kawau island we performed a Haka to the camp Bentzon. We hoped of the ferry and started unloading our bags on to the island.

The 2 most popular animals were Wallabies and Wekas, Wallabies come from Australia. Adult male Wallabies can be also named as Bucks,Jacks and Boomers. Wekas are native to New Zealand. Wekas have sturdy legs and reduced wings and they are also very fast.

The water sports at Kawau island included Sailing,Kayaking and Raft making . My favourite water sport was rafting in rafting you had to make it to the pontoon and back without your Raft breaking. And at the end of camp our team were the only ones that managed to make it there and back.

Our concert was awesome everyone had to sing songs instead of play Song on the speakers. there were 4 groups that performed there was Mansion (the best group), Kawau, Bentzon and Katz. My group Mansion we sang and danced to All about that base, Shake it off, Royals and did our chant but at the end of the night 4th was Katz 3rd was Kawau 2nd was Mansion and in 1st by 1 point was Bentzon.

I think that camp Bentzon was cool and I would like to do it again. Apart from running up mountains the rest of the camp I would suggest. Camp Bentzon was the best camp I had been to in my life so far.

Friends Writing Test

WALT: explain to your reader what being a good friend means

What is a friend? A friend is someone who always has your back when it gets hard, a friend is a person who will always take care of you.  Friends will stand up for you if people are picking on you or bullying you

We have friends because if we didn't the world wouldn't be a happy for me or you. If we didn't have other people to be friends with we would be lonely. We all would have nobody to talk or listen to and wouldn't that just be boring?

Some best friends are like family because you might have grown up with them or seen them every day of your life. People think just because you're the opposite gender you can't be friends, But infact one of my best friends is a girl and i’ve been friends with her ever since I was in nappies. I actually think of friends as brothers and sisters.

How could I be a friend? You could watch out for them make sure they're not getting picked on, you could also talk to them make sure everythings alright. But basically all the things i've just said is how you could be a friend.

Life without friends would be a disaster and I would be very sad. I hope you have learnt a lot about how to be a great friend. I think i've learnt a lot from writing and thank you for reading.

What Do Capitals Mean

WALT: Write an explanation telling people what capital letters are and when you use them in writing.

Capital letters are bigger than the normal letter like Tt there both the same but one is bigger. They can be known as capitals/big letters and uppercase. The reason you can tell its a capital is because it reaches the upper line.

You use something like an I by itself because its always supposed to be a capital. But something I don’t get is why is I a capital and why a is not well i’ll tell you. It is because I is a pronoun and a is preferred to a definite article.

Geographical places are like a country, city or a town. Geographical places always have to start with a Capital. If you don't know what Geographical places are well for example Mcdonald's has to have capitals because its a Geographical place.

A capital can also come up after a full stop, question mark, exclamation mark or a person speaking. You might be wondering “ Why do we use capitals ” because it makes our sentences make sense. An Example “ I had a great day” see how it starts with a capital.

For the last paragraph I have chosen to talk about the dates. You also use capitals for Dates. For example February and Monday and another is religious holidays.

I've learnt a lot about capitals and how to use them and hopefully I will use them properly in my writing.

This is how I rated my 4th paragraph if you don't agree then leave a comment leaving your feedback so I know what to work on

Year sevens get jackets News Article

             Year Seven getting Jackets
                      By Taimana
                      Pt England School

At Pt England School we have 8 different years and our year 7’s and 8’s have different uniforms then all the other kids.  So today I will be telling you about why this is happening.

You will be learning how much the year 7 and 8’s Uniform costs.  The year 7 and 8’s jacket costs $50 and the black hat is optional but is $10. This is expensive for the kids but the parents want the uniform at the school.

Here is a quote from Mrs Flavell who told us what happened.
“We have the different option just so you distinguish the senior children from everybody else”. She said 98% of the children have a jacket.

The jacket is black with smooth material and has little red lines on it with the school logo in Red. The hat is a bucket hat and has elastic to keep on your head.

The year 5 & 6 should have something like a jacket  so they can look cool  like the year 7 & 8’s.  The prices maybe expensive but it keeps you warm for the rest of the year.  The jackets look really cool and fancy and Pt Englander's love them.

Let The Games Begin

I have been waiting for this moment, the moment when New Zealand makes history, at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth games. The Games is when people train for 4 years just to maybe compete one time.  The Commonwealth Games have been going for about 84 years, and did you know The games use to be called The British Empire Games and it was called that from 1930 to 1974.

The first event I will be telling you about is Weightlifting, Weightlifting began in the 2nd century when a guy called Galen used halteres as an early form of a Dumbbell.  Weightlifting helps people out with their training like in Rugby, Bodybuilding, Basketball etc it helps them not to get injured and to keep fit.  The most gold medals won by anyone was Hossein Rezazadeh the Iranian with 11 gold and 2 bronze making him the top gold medal winner.

The next event I will be telling you about is The Rugby 7’s. Rugby is physical sport with tackling and hitting the ball up are both sore but if you score a try it’s 5 points and if you score a try and 2 points if you get a conversion. The Rugby 7’s event has just finished in the Commonwealth games and bronze medalist were Australia silver was New Zealand and South Africa took gold winning 17-12 against New Zealand.

The Third and final event I will be telling you about is long distance running. Usually the Kenyans take it out in the men’s but this year it was Michael Shelley the gold medalist from Australia. In Long Distance running you have to be really fit like me just kidding but if you watch long distance they are really skinny.

I think the Commonwealth is good because those countries can be friendly and they won’t try to pick fights with each other.

Commonwealth facts

                                 Commonwealth :

What is the Commonwealth? The Commonwealth is all the people that are ruled by the Queen.
Countries who are part of this? Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Europe, Australia, and Antarctica.
Where in the world are these countries?
What do these countries have in common? They are all ruled by the Queen and Britain.

Here are some Interesting factoids :
Did you know if you're in the Commonwealth and you cause a world war you will get banned from the Commonwealth.  Because there have been certain countries like Nigeria,Zimbabwe, Pakistan twice and Fiji twice and I don't know why they let them in it again.  The Commonwealth games have only been held twice in New Zealand and there may not be a third time

Hydro Flames (Part 1)

2014, The year of the Hydro flames Tai & Zane go on an adventure of a lifetime to defeat the Wind Warriors. The Wind Warriors are 2 people that that have control of the wind and are super hard to defeat. And Hydro Flame has the power of The half-human child of an alien from a water-based civilisation, he has incredible powers! However, his heritage also means that he’s hated and feared both by humanity and the aliens who are now hunting him down!

The Hydro Flames biggest weakness is neutral turbo. No one has that in this galaxy and when we were made we didn’t know we had our powers until the wind warriors attacked us. The first time they attacked us we just noticed we had our powers so we were noobcakes. And when you are a noob at having powers you’re in trouble like a lot. Especially if you already have enemies like WIND WARRIORS  the WIND WARRIORS  beaten us several times but we've beaten the 214 times.

The WIND WARRIORS are bad at fighting and it gets annoying when they keep coming back. This time was different because they bought an army of 50 and all 50 were just like them but I think a bit more powerful. they broke through our door like it was nothing and came straight and surrounding us we couldn’t move the leaders yelled “don't move or i’ll attack” the Hydro flames stayed as still as a statue the Hydro Flames whispered to each other “attack on 3 1,2,3” they jumped at them yelling “AHHHHHHHH”.

We fought Wind Warriors off as long as we could  but there were too much for them. They were all so strong but we knew we could defeat  not defeat them they were too strong. We will be able to beat them with more training and exercise they would never beat us but with the new army we could have second thoughts. They kicked us in cells and locked us up but they made a big mistake were fire they put us in steel chains and cuffs and fire melts that easily so we were out easy peasy. One day they will be the one’s in cell’s and cuffs but today we will be a threat to the WIND WARRIORS but for now we train.

Meeting Sam Tomkins

Last week my Mum and I met Sam Tomkins. He’s a 25 year old from England and is a Professional Rugby League player.  He spoke for an hour telling me and the Mount Wellington under 16’s about his story growing up and wanting to be a league player. So his story starts in Milton Keynes, age 7 Sam Tomkins wanted to be a Rugby League Player. He said he was not the best player out on the field and never made the rep teams.

He had two brothers one brother played with him in the Wigan Warriors and the other one plays professional league too.  In England Sam said that they finish school at 16 years old so he left school, and tried to get paid playing for Wigan development squad because he heard people were getting paid 10,000 pounds.  He went to the GM (General Manager) and asked if he could get paid to play too but the GM said “you can’t get paid but you can play for nothing” and he said he would play but he was a little down not getting paid.

Sam Tomkins found a job cutting grass which he didn’t make a lot of money.  Sam he had to bike from cutting grass to training and it took 30 minutes and by the time he got there he was already tired.  He only played 6 or 7 games in one season and then his team got into the semi finals they won it but at the end of the game there was a big fight and Sam Tomkins was standing there as water boy thinking to himself i'm gonna get a game in the end 6 people got banned and he got into the starting lineup.

He told us that he played the best he had ever played and the next year he went to the GM and said “can I be paid now” and was told “you can get 25 pounds for a win” it was still stink but it was better than nothing.  He did think about going to another club, but he really wanted to play for Wigan.

Through this year he didn’t get a lot of games again, disappointed being waterboy again, finally his moment came.  Thomas Leuluai, who played halfback was chosen to play for New Zealand in a Anzac test.  So Sam got a shot at playing as the number 7 for that weekends game.  He was so nervous, as they were playing the lowest team in the grade.  If they lost, that might be the end of his career.  His team had an amazing game and won 108 - 10.  He got 5 tries in that game and that was his debut, he said it was one of the best games of his life.  He was in the paper and had started to be notice by people as he walked around town with his mates.  Fans were asking for his signature, and he didn’t even have one.

At the age of 19 he was playing for Wigan top grade.  Through his career he had won 2 Grand Finals and 2 Challenge Cups Finals.  He enjoyed his time playing there, and even played in the English team.  Even playing for them he got in trouble when he gave the fingers to the Leeds fans during a try celebration.  He only did it cause the Leeds fans always booed him.  He was charged $10,000 pounds for that.  He said it was the best money he ever spent, but he was joking.

Coming to the Warriors was a massive move for him.  He did bring a mate with him, so he didn’t come alone.  He reckoned three more friends will be coming in October.  He was asked what sort of car did he want to own, he said an Aston Martin.  But at the moment he drives a Porsche and a Range Rover, not too bad!  He was asked about the coach change that the Warriors have, and he said it is much better now than it was with the first coach.  This coach is a lot harder and makes them do a lot of fitness if they drop the ball, especially Konrad Hurrell.

He seems to enjoy playing for the Warriors, and I think he has been doing well.  Sam said that trainings are really important and to listen and learn in that 1 hour we train.  He reckons he has picked up on different players ways of how they play.  It helps him with his game, where to run and who to be by.  He was prepared to train outside with the 16’s team, and said he would come back for a run when its not so wet.

I enjoyed that talk from Sam Tomkins, he was cool to listen to.  I did ask the question on which field he liked the most, Eden Park of Mount Smart.  He said Mount Smart is better because the crowd is closer and the atmosphere is awesome, and it gets him going.  Eden Park, fans are too far away.

The club gave him a Mount Wellington League jersey as a thank you present.  He put it on and we all got to have a picture with him.  I also got my Warriors jersey signed, it was cool.  My Mum and I left when he did, and we got to see him drive away in his porsche, it looked awesome.

Extension Term 2 DLO

For Extension we had to do our term reflection and make a DLO about it.If you can't hear the video here is the story.

This term was a lot of fun and I wanted to share it with you. So it all started with a survey that we did to show Mrs Tele’a what we usually eat.

After that we learnt about how Malawi people live, what they eat and where they sleep. I have done research about them and found the answer’s to my question’s. They usually eat a food called Maize, Maize is a type of corn that they grow, sometimes they eat mice I know you are thinking “ewwww why would they eat mice” well it’s a way of surviving.

We had to do our daily menu and compare it to Malawi’s menu. This was my menu it wasn’t my daily menu but I eat sometimes on the other hand Malawi’s menu is not always what they eat either they continuously eat Maize.

The famine came and this years saying was the power of 40 and most of the extension group came and spent the night in the school library. We played games and talked to the famine ambassadors we asked them questions to see what their answers were. Then we played some fun games with them. After that we went to sleep after watching the movie Frozen people kept singing and I could not get to sleep. You're probably wondering why did we do the famine well it was to raise money for the people in Malawi we did pretty good actually raising 1,700 dollars.

Conclusion:

I think that Malawians are pretty resourceful because they make use of the things around them. I know now that i’m very lucky to have things and lucky to be living most kids can die from starvation. This term was really fun and know i’ll have more fun trips like this in the future.
