Fractions
This is very helpful maths sight. It helps you convert your fractions into percentages and then into decimals. If you don't know the answer you can ask for help or even show the answer so you know it next time, and if you're not proud of your score you can reset it and start again. Here is the link if you would like to give it a go The Conversion Tester.

Maths Whizz Review
Maths Whizz is virtual maths tutor for the ages 5-13, it helps you with with all strategies but it will make sure that you are set on the right age level. The sign in screen looks like this.
You can also add buddies and send them challenges too. I have been playing maths whizz for about 4 years and this game has helped me improve quite a bit. Maths Whizz is a tool that our school uses everyday, and our class has to do at least 20 minutes a day.
At the moment I am doing a game that is dividing km and grams. And this is one of the special games where you can use a calculator. My goal for Maths Whizz this year is to become top of my
school at least once.

Silicon Valley
Two months ago two boys from Tamaki College came to our school to talk about the amazing adventure they had ahead of them. Today they came back from America to tell us about their favourite parts about the trip, they went to California, America. Their names are Gabe and Saiah who are year 11's, 3 years ago Gabe was a year at student at Pt England school, so it was great and inspiring to see one of our former students to be given the opportunity to go on this amazing journey.
They went to places such as Google, Khan Academy, Microsoft, Xero, Landing Pad, Stanford University, Facebook/Instagram, Book Track, Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge, Gabe's favourite places were Alcatraz, Khan Academy and Microsoft and Saiah's favourite places were Stanford and Facebook/Instagram.
Even though Gabe loved his journey he said that he would rather prefer to stay in New Zealand because its home, and being away from New Zealand wouldn't be the same. But Saiah said he would like to live in America because he would like to go to Stanford University because he wants a good education. They came to our school to tell us that we could be them in 3 years time.

Iluminate Writing
We walk into the hall not knowing what was going to happen, everyone sits down and waits quietly. I look at the back of the hall wondering why the windows were covered with black paper? Mr Burt talks a bit about what was going to happen and introduced a lady who had apparently came through our school and saw what we do with chromebooks and how it helps our education, but she brought her friends by the name of iluminate.
Iluminate are a group of dancers but not any ordinary dancer, they dance in the dark and also have light on them which are coded to change color and basically make the performance a lot cooler. There were 3 dancers 2 men and 1 girl. The lights switched off everyone says “OWHHHHH” cause we all know when the lights go off it's going to be a good performance. All of a sudden people were on stage with a costume of lights, They were so cool I couldn't take my eyes off them all the lights were flashing and they were moving around in different formations. From this experience I got to say that's one of the coolest things i've ever seen.
After the performance was finished my mind was blown, I was hoping there was more. After their performance they got changed and our Kapa Haka group done a dance for them to welcome them to New Zealand. The assembly had finished and all the little kids left but the year 7&8’s were lucky enough to stay behind and ask questions. My favourite question and answer was when we asked “how did you start dancing?” One of them said they started having like street battles and learning all the moves and stuff.
Creative Writing (Captivity)
CAPTIVITY
“I’ve escaped, I finally escaped” Sam is a 18 year old girl from Auckland, New Zealand. Sam has been in captivity for the last 8 years, she has recently escaped and is looking for help. She ran and ran, looking and spinning around trying to work out where she was.
She saw a dairy and ran into it, breathing heavily. She finally spat out her words, “My name is Sam Hutchinson, I have been missing for 8 years. I have just escaped cause my kidnapper left the door open”.
The police arrived 15 minutes later. They came into the dairy looking very carefully at Sam. One policeman said to her, “Are you Sam Hutchinson”? Sam stuttered, “Ye ye yes”. “Please come with us to the police station and we will look after you”.
Sam sat there in a little room with a cup of tea. She was trying to go through her mind what the hell has just happened. What’s going to happen to me now. Are my parents still alive or even here. She starts to cry, she realises they may not even be around, they could be dead and she would have no one, no one again. She begins to cry, what am I going to do.
The police are still struggling to get in contact with her parents, one of the office workers shouts “I’ve found something officer” the officer walked over to the desk. The parents of Sam have moved to Spain and have apparently been living there since they lost Sam. The officer’s reckon the only reason they moved is to start afresh and forget about the tragedy. Her parents are named Mike and Julia and she also has a little brother Joshua.
It takes the police agency 2 hours to get a hold of the family, the police told them about the missing child and they straight away went into tears. The family packed their bags, rushed straight to the airport and caught the first flight back to New Zealand. After long long trip, they finally arrived in Auckland.
The Police were at the airport waiting for them. “Mr and Mrs Hutchinson”, the policeman said. “Yes” Julia said. “This way to the car, we will take to you to Samantha”. MIke and Julia looked at each other, relief in their eyes. They did as they were told and followed the Police Officer.
When they got to the Police Station, they could hardly wait to get in. They were taken to the room Sam was in. Sam was sitting at the table, she looked up. There they were, her parents, and her little brother Josh. She stood up, her parents mouths were open with amazement, it was her, there little girl all grown up. They ran to her, and hugged her with all their love. Sam was so happy, here they are, I’m so happy.

Term 2 Immersion Assembly
Anddddd we are back for term 2. But to start off the term our school had an immersion assembly. Mrs Nua welcomed us back sporting a box with pictures that resembled images of buildings for another term at Pt England School, next she introduced team one to perform their item to the whole school.
Team 1 are learning about their favorite things. Miss Wild’s favorite thing is her Chihuahua, Mrs George’s favorite thing is Hokey Pokey Ice cream, Miss Peck’s favorite thing is her Pandora Bracelet. Team 2 are learning about the seasons of the year.
Team 3 did a video, it was a parody of the show grand designs, they will be learning about architecture. Team 4 will be drawing and designing comic superheroes. And team 5 are learning about the four waka (Hokulea - Hinemoana - Hikianalia - Te Aurere).
My favourite team was team 4. I really enjoyed their movie, Captain America, Wonder woman and Batman had to stop the evil villain with the name Baxen Bear, Baxen Bear has stolen Bobby Jon’s netbook and someone has to save the day. This term I am looking forward to learning more about Waka’s and Canoe’s especially Hikianalia which is my house color.

Narrative
I was late, very very late. Mum’s gonna kill me, she always worries when I’m not home on time. Maybe if I take a short cut I will be able to get home before her.
“Tevita hurry up, we have to go”, he finished tying his shoe and jumped up, “Ready”, he said. I started walking ahead of him, “What do you reckon, we take the short cut through the forest. It’s only like a rugby field long, we could do it” I said. Tevita stopped walking in shock, “The forest, are you crazy? There’s a monster in the forest, no one walks through there and comes out the other side”.
I stopped to think about it, there was a story that all the kids had heard about. If anyone walked through the forest the monster that no one has ever seen would get you and eat you, leaving your bones on the ground where you stood in shock and gasped your last breath.
I shook my head, “Nah that’s all rubbish, we’ll be sweet. We are both fast, no one could catch us”. Tevita said “Trudat, we pretty fast, yeah let’s do it. Then when kids ask us about it we would say it was easy as’.
We made it to the opening and looked down the dark scary road. There was a light at the other end, this is going to save us like half an hour, we got to do it. We looked at each other, I nodded at him and he raised his eyebrows. It was go time, we tightened our bags on our backs so they would flop all over the place.
“Ready” I said, “Ready” he said, “Okay, ready set go” I screamed. We started running, looking from side to side to make sure there was nothing there. It was all good, I was getting tired but we couldn’t stop. If we stop then who knows what would happen.
We are halfway now, we are going well. Tevita started to slow down, “Don’t stop, don’t stop”, I puffed out. “I don’t think I can make it” he shouted. “Keep going, keep going”, I said.
Then we heard a noise, we both stopped in our tracks. “What was that?” he said. “I don’t know”, I said. We both looked back, there was something coming towards us, I couldn’t tell what it was, but it was coming fast and making a big rattling noise. We looked at each other and at the same time and screamed “Arhhhhhhh”, we turned back around and ran as fast as we could. I didn’t think my legs could be this fast, but this was my life, I’m too young to die.
We were close to the end, the light was right there. Just a little bit more, we are going to make it. Then right before we made it we both tripped up and landed straight on our faces. It was sore, a pain like no other. We slowly got up, the noise was right behind us. Oh no we are stuffed, we both looked behind us.
“Errrrrrrttt”, then dirt flew in our faces. It finally cleared. “What you fulla’s doing, why were you running so fast” Zane said. I was racing my bike down here cause I saw you run into the forest”. Tevita and I looked at each other and started laughing. We were so scared we fell over, that was so crazy.
We brushed the dirt off ourselves, and we starting walking again, out of the forest. We all turned back at the forest, “Monster, what a joke” I said. “Well better get home before I get into any more trouble”, we all laughed.
Show Not Tell
Feeling sad and unwanted, he jumped out the window after being told he was adopted. He got into an argument with his mother and out loud she yelled “You’re adopted” his heart dropped, he ran up the stairs into his bed and laid there for a while. Well lying there with tears dripping down his face he was thinking to himself, is my whole life a lie.
He needed some fresh air, so he jumped out the window from two stories up and landed on a dusty old mattress that had been on their front lawn for the past week. He started walking to his school, it was the closest place with a park. While walking he saw some of his friends, they called, “Ben, Ben wanna come play with us?” Ben ignored them and continued on walking.
When he got to the park he tried to open the gate. “Cling cling!” As the lock tightens on the gate, there was no other way but to jump over the huge gate, but he did it with ease and landed hard on his feet. He hopped on the swing, swinging to and fro as the chain creeks, having another think about what’s happening.
His mother, well kinda his mother walked into his room and saw the window wide open, she rushed down the stairs horrified. She grabbed her keys locked the door and jumped into the car and sped down the road, looking around “Ben where are you?“ she screamed her heart was racing, in her head she was wondering if she’d ever see him again.

Ben’s friends noticed he looked sad while he was walking, they followed him hoping he wouldn’t do anything silly. They watched him from afar while he swung on the swing. It got to about 6:00pm and Ben showed no sign of going back home and his mum was still searching the streets, but was nowhere near finding him. She didn't want to give up, she needed to find him. His friends got bored so they came out of the bushes and walked up to Ben and asked “What’s wrong?” Ben answered “Nothing”, Ben’s friends knew something was wrong so they offered to take him back home and Ben accepted the offer. They started walking back home, Ben head was down and he was looking angry. His friends didn't know whether to ask again or just leave him, so they all walked in silence.
They arrived at Ben’s house, they all noticed his mum's car was gone but no one knew where. Ben friend said “She's probably out looking for you”. Ben finally told them that they got into an argument and his mum told him he was adopted, his friends were shocked to hear the news and waited on the wooden door step with him. It 8:00 pm at night and Ben’s mum decided to return home hoping he would be there. She drove up the driveway and there he was they both ran to each other, arms open for a big hug, tears dripping down their faces. Ben then said the words she wanted to hear, “I love you mum”. Ruining the moment Ben’s friends said “Uhmm can we have a ride home?”
