Let The Games Begin

I have been waiting for this moment, the moment when New Zealand makes history, at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth games. The Games is when people train for 4 years just to maybe compete one time.  The Commonwealth Games have been going for about 84 years, and did you know The games use to be called The British Empire Games and it was called that from 1930 to 1974.

The first event I will be telling you about is Weightlifting, Weightlifting began in the 2nd century when a guy called Galen used halteres as an early form of a Dumbbell.  Weightlifting helps people out with their training like in Rugby, Bodybuilding, Basketball etc it helps them not to get injured and to keep fit.  The most gold medals won by anyone was Hossein Rezazadeh the Iranian with 11 gold and 2 bronze making him the top gold medal winner.

The next event I will be telling you about is The Rugby 7’s. Rugby is physical sport with tackling and hitting the ball up are both sore but if you score a try it’s 5 points and if you score a try and 2 points if you get a conversion. The Rugby 7’s event has just finished in the Commonwealth games and bronze medalist were Australia silver was New Zealand and South Africa took gold winning 17-12 against New Zealand.

The Third and final event I will be telling you about is long distance running. Usually the Kenyans take it out in the men’s but this year it was Michael Shelley the gold medalist from Australia. In Long Distance running you have to be really fit like me just kidding but if you watch long distance they are really skinny.

I think the Commonwealth is good because those countries can be friendly and they won’t try to pick fights with each other.
